The brief

What heavy foot traffic demands of a wall

At home, a wall panel mostly has to look good. In a commercial space, it has to look good and last. Five criteria separate a finish that endures from one you'll be replacing in two years.

  • Impact resistance. Entrances, corridors and waiting areas take constant wear.
  • Fire safety. A commercial building has to meet the National Building Code of Canada, and the wall finish must comply.
  • Acoustics. Open plans and hard surfaces amplify noise; a room that's too loud is a room people leave.
  • Easy upkeep. A wall should wipe clean in seconds, with no specialty products.
  • Fast installation. Every day closed for work is a day without revenue.

The materials

Five panel families

With those criteria in mind, the choice comes into focus. Here are the materials that meet the demands of commercial spaces.

Wood acoustic panels in a commercial space, the dining room at Moxie's

01

Wood acoustic panels

Open plans are appealing, right up until they start to echo. Gensler's workplace research keeps confirming it: noise remains one of the biggest obstacles to focus. In a restaurant, it's conversation that suffers. Wood acoustic panels solve the problem without a dropped ceiling or foam tiles stuck to the wall: the slats become the décor and the felt absorbs the echo. A wood slat wall then becomes as much an acoustic asset as an aesthetic one.

Stone-effect mineral wall panels in a commercial space, columns at Cococina restaurant

02

Stone-effect mineral panels

For a lobby or a hospitality project, nothing says high-end like stone. But real slabs are heavy, slow to install and costly, and printed imitations give themselves away up close. Mineral panels made from real rock dust bridge the gap: the depth and grain of decorative stone, at a fraction of the weight. Water- and fire-resistant, they belong in a busy entrance as much as in a damp area.

At Artmur: BétonFlex, made from real rock dust (travertine, marble, cement).

Metal wall panels in a commercial space: rippled chrome finish in a boutique window

03

Metal wall panels

When a surface has to withstand constant contact and still look immaculate, metal is the answer. It holds up where a softer finish would mark, wipes clean in one pass and gives retail and reception spaces a bold, solid presence. On a feature wall or a counter front, it signals quality the moment people walk in.

At Artmur: the Metal collection, for feature walls and counters that need to stay flawless.

Rigid fluted wall panel for a commercial space, shaped as an arch with indirect lighting

04

Rigid fluted panels

Vertical fluting is the quiet workhorse of commercial interiors. Its deep, regular lines hide minor scuffs instead of showing them, give rhythm to a long wall and add structure to a reception area or corridor without overdoing it. Rigid by design, these panels stay perfectly straight on a flat wall, year after year.

At Artmur: RigidLine, including our paint-ready Linéapur PVC wall panels.

Flexible wall panels in a commercial space: curved reception counter at Maison Margan

05

Flexible panels for curves and brand identity

Commercial design thrives on signature moments: a curved reception desk, a clad column, an arch at the entrance. The 2027 design trends confirm it: curves are here to stay. Where a rigid panel stops, a flexible one follows the curve. Real wood, velvet or a paintable finish: it gives a brand a wall no one else has.

At Artmur: BoisFlex (flexible real wood), VelvFlex (velvet surface) and our flexible paint-ready panels, in your brand's exact colour.

Frequently asked questions

For high-contact areas, metal and rigid fluted panels stand up best to wear. Mineral panels made from rock dust add water and fire resistance, which matters in lobbies and damp areas. Wood acoustic panels suit restaurants and offices, where the real issue is noise. The right choice depends on the room: no single panel wins everywhere.

They have to. Our BétonFlex, PanFlex and Archiloom collections have fire safety test reports from SGS under the CAN/ULC-S102 standard, available on our certifications page. The National Building Code of Canada sets the allowable flame spread rating according to how the space is used, so ask us for the technical data sheets as soon as you start planning your project.

Yes. Our acoustic panels pair wood slats with sound-absorbing felt, cutting echo while dressing the wall. It's a proven solution for open-plan offices and busy dining rooms, where hard surfaces make conversation difficult.

Artmur panels are lightweight and designed for quick installation, with no major construction. Our installation service in Greater Montréal keeps closures to a minimum. For a precise timeline, send us your plans.
