Design Trends 2027: Artmur at Montreal's Expo Design

Flat walls and right angles are giving way to arches, columns and rounded headboards. At the latest Salone del Mobile in Milan, flowing lines and sculptural forms were everywhere. Wood follows that movement, as long as it bends with the curve instead of breaking it. Where a rigid panel stops, a flexible wall panel makes the difference.

As a counterpoint to neutrals, warm tones are returning: burnt orange, terracotta, chocolate browns. WGSN and Coloro also place an energetic orange among the key colours of 2027. And according to the annual 1stDibs survey of 468 designers, chocolate brown leads the colours designers expect to use, while upholstered walls keep gaining ground. Velvet is leaving armchairs to dress walls and create a soft focal point in a reception area, a bedroom or a bar.
