Wood slat walls: style and texture

A wood slat wall warms a room and gives it rhythm and depth. At Artmur, our slats are real wood, never imitation: oak, walnut, black ash, white. Species that age well and sit easily with the rest of the décor.

Two families, one idea. Our felt-backed slats bring real presence to restaurants, offices and studios. Our decorative BoisFlex slats are flexible, so they follow a straight wall or a curved column alike, purely for the love of the material. For commercial projects, both meet Canadian fire-safety requirements.

Designers and architects: order samples, review the technical data sheets, then request a quote tailored to your project.

Curves and wood are among the five design trends for 2027 we're presenting at Expo Design in Montreal.

Frequently asked questions

A wood slat wall is a wall covering made of thin strips of real wood set at regular intervals, usually mounted on a backing (felt or a flexible panel). The shadows between the slats create depth and warmth, a look much in demand in interior design. Artmur offers two options: felt-backed slats from the Acoustique Pro collection (for décor and sound absorption) and BoisFlex decorative slats, which are thinner and flexible.

It depends on the model. Slats mounted on high-density PET felt (Acoustique Pro) absorb up to 90% of the sound energy that hits them in the speech frequency range, with an NRC of 0.75 to 0.90 depending on the model. By contrast, a painted drywall partition has an NRC below 0.05. If the goal is mainly aesthetic, the BoisFlex range is all you need. If the room echoes, Acoustique Pro is the way to go.

Natural oak, light smoked walnut, black ash and white, with black or white felt depending on the look you want. Each species has its own grain and tone: oak for brightness, walnut for warmth, black ash for contrast. Your best bet is to order a sample and judge the material in hand, under your own lighting.

Living rooms, bedrooms, entryways and headboards on the residential side; restaurants, offices, meeting rooms and reception areas on the commercial side. The flexible BoisFlex slats can also go on a round column or a curved wall. The one exception: very humid rooms without ventilation (saunas, showers) aren't suitable for real wood.

On furring strips or with adhesive, depending on the substrate. Installation comes after the electrical work and painting, ideally before the furniture goes in. In Greater Montréal, our team offers a turnkey service: measuring, layout and installation. Outside the area, we provide detailed installation instructions and work with your contractor. Allow 1 to 2 days for a standard wall.

Dust every 2 to 4 weeks with a vacuum and soft brush attachment, and use a lightly damp microfibre cloth for the odd mark. No harsh chemicals. PET felt is UV-resistant and won't yellow. One-year product warranty from delivery.

Yes. Our panels meet CAN/ULC-S102 for flame spread and smoke development in interior finishes, a requirement of the National Building Code for buildings open to the public. Technical documentation is available on request for projects subject to inspection.

Yes, it's at the heart of what we do. The Pro Experience Program gives designers, architects and contractors preferred pricing, dedicated project support and access to the showroom by appointment (2165 Av. Madison, Montréal). For large volumes or custom finishes, we work from your plans.
